Just returned from a wonderful trip to and round Normandy with Club Lotus, brilliantly organised by Club Lotus France.
Day 1 - early start to catch the ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. A very relaxing way to travel.
We stopped at the Pegasus bridge memorial on our way to our hotel in Cabourg.
Day 2 - west along the coast to see some of the D-day beaches. Then, in the evening, meeting up with Club Lotus members and their cars - old and new.
Day 3 - a wonderful trip with around 30 cars involved, first to Honfleur
And then, along some superb driving roads, to a fantastic restaurant in Jumieges.
And then a reception at the Cabourg casino.
Unfortunately, on the way back in the afternoon, in heavy rain, the wipers stopped - and because they were not parked properly the motor continued to draw current.... and heated up badly. The earth had to be disconnected.
Day 4.
We made the tough decision to return home a day early, as the forecast for the following day was "very wet". As we had found, driving in heavy rain without wipers was not fun.......
A short walk, then off to the ferry. Another relaxing journey on the ferry, drove off at Portsmouth to find that an increasing number of things weren't working - ventilation fan, fuel gauge, tacho and then indicators....... in the dark.
So, this morning I managed to find the fault........ simply a poor connection in the fusebox that was causing a voltage drop that first stopped the wipers and then all the other items, one at a time. Now fixed, but Pauline hasn't forgiven me for not finding the problem whilst we were in France, so we could have joined in on Sunday and eaten the second group lunch!
Despite the problems, a wonderful trip with a really great bunch of people. Just over 400 miles in total.
